Terms
The terms for using replacementapps.com, in plain language. Updated 19 October 2026.
Who runs the site
replacementapps.com is run by Replacement Apps. To reach us, use the contact page. By using the site you agree to these terms; if you don't agree, please don't use it.
What the site is
An index of free and open-source projects built to replace paid software. Each entry says which paid product a project stands in for, what that product costs, the project's license and how it was built, and, where the company behind the paid product is publicly traded, how its stock has moved.
The site is a reference, not a store. We don't sell, host or distribute the projects. Downloads and services come from each project, under that project's own license and terms.
Accuracy and corrections
Entries come from project repositories, launch posts and press coverage, and each one links its sources. Prices, licenses, release numbers and star counts change, and we can't promise that every detail is current or complete. Check the project's own site before you rely on it.
If something is wrong or missing, tell us through the contact page. We correct confirmed errors.
Not investment advice
Stock charts and price changes are there for context only. A project's launch rarely explains why a large company's share price moves, and nothing on the site is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security. Prices come from a third party and may be delayed or wrong.
Names, trademarks and listings
Product names, company names, logos and screenshots belong to their owners. We use them only to say which product a project replaces and what it looks like. A listing doesn't mean we endorse the project, or that the project or the company behind the paid product endorses us.
If you own a project or product and want its entry changed or removed, write to us through the contact page.
Comments and votes
Upvoting needs no account. Commenting needs a sign-in. When you take part:
- Keep it about the software, and be civil. No harassment, threats, hate or slurs.
- No spam, advertising or links posted only to promote something.
- Don't post anyone's personal information, and don't pretend to be someone else.
- Don't post anything illegal, or anything you don't have the right to share.
- One vote per person. Don't use scripts, extra accounts or other tricks to move votes or scores.
We may hold or remove comments that break these rules, and ban accounts that keep breaking them. How moderation works is below.
How moderation works
- Every comment is checked automatically before it appears, by word lists and by an AI model that runs on Cloudflare's network. Comments that clearly break the rules are refused; ones that might are held for a moderator.
- The first few comments from a new account wait for a moderator before anyone else sees them.
- Anyone signed in can report a comment. Three reports hide a comment until a moderator has looked at it.
- A moderator approves or removes held comments and can ban accounts. The privacy page says how long each kind of record is kept.
If you think we got a decision wrong, tell us through the contact page.
What you post
You keep the rights to your comments. By posting one, you let us show it on the site, store it, and copy it as running the site needs (backups, for example), for as long as it stays up. You can delete your comments, or your whole account, at any time; see the privacy page for what deleting removes.
Availability
We run the site as it is, without a warranty of any kind. It may be slow, wrong or unavailable at times, and we may change or remove features, entries or the whole site. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for losses that come from using the site or the projects it lists. Nothing here limits rights you have under the law where you live.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
